Hybrid trap is a Trap (EDM) subgenre that blends its deep 808 kicks, pulsating, hard-hitting sub-bass, and rolling hi-hats with metallic and complex sound design originally derived from Brostep; brostep sound design traits such as wobbles, growls and LFO synths were some of the early sound design innovations in hybrid trap, which would become much more varied and experimental in the latter half of the 2010s, as it developed further into quirkier and/or more distorted styles. Much of early hybrid trap featured a fixed 140 BPM and brostep-inspired drum programming, including "fatter" kick-snares and non-rolling hi-hats that distinguished it from concurrent trap styles, but that would change as time passed on too, with producers introducing "crunchier" and wonky sounding percussion. Throughout its development, hybrid trap became closely affiliated with other novel 2010s bass music genres, especially Riddim and Halftime, or even the experimental Deconstructed Club and Bubblegum Bass.
