who she is
Charli xcx is Charlotte Aitchison, born in Cambridge and putting music on MySpace from the age of fourteen. Most people meet her through her own records. The other half of her career is songs with somebody else's name on them.
She co-wrote "I Love It" for Icona Pop in 2012, which is still the song that pays the rent, and kept going: "Fancy" with Iggy Azalea, "Same Old Love" for Selena Gomez, "OMG" for Camila Cabello, "Senorita" for Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, and two songs on Blondie's Pollinator.
The trick of her writing for other people is that it does not sound like her. She can write a clean, enormous, radio-shaped hook and hand it over, then go make a record that sounds like a car alarm in a good way.
She produces too, mostly on her own records, and has executive produced her own albums rather than other people's.
